Course Description

The job title of Supervisor refers to a lower level management position that is primarily based on authority over a worker or charge of a workplace. A Supervisor can also be one of the most senior in the staff at the place of work and can be used to refer to any personnel who have this task as part of their job description.

The Criminal Code of Canada may interpret a supervisor based upon criminal code 217.1.

"217.1 Everyone who undertakes, or has the authority, to direct how another person does work or performs a task is under a legal duty to take reasonable steps to prevent bodily harm to that person, or any other person, arising from that work or task."

Supervisors have many different levels of responsibility. They answer to company management, but they also are responsible for the development and activities of their staff members.

Supervisor also assume the reasonability to keep their workers safe. In addition, they are to ensure that the work their employees are performing will not affect the health and safety of others in the area.

This alone requires a fluent knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and the inherent responsibility that accompany the job of a supervisor.
