What is H2S Alive?
H2S Alive Training is a detailed and comprehensive course that is both relevant and appropriate for workers who have been introduced to H2S while in the workplace. The next obvious question at this point would be…
What is H2S?
H2S, otherwise known as Hydrogen sulphide is an uncolored gas that possesses the rancid odour of rotten eggs. As a chemical compound, its formula is represented as H2S. It is toxic, eroding, and combustible. Workers who are exposed to this gas are typically in the construction, industrial, sanitary, maintenance, and oil and gas fields.
There are H2S Alive Training classroom courses available in Calgary offered by AIP Safety. Additionally, online courses are also available as well.
Who will benefit?
This 8-hour course was created for Alberta workers typically working in the trades. Fields such as natural gas, drilling and mining, crude oil, etc, are all subject to the accumulation of hydrogen sulphide – and as a result – so are their workers.
Even miners and tunnel workers might be exposed to hydrogen sulphide within certain patches and regions while working underground. For this reason, those who will benefit most are workers in the trades who deal with hydrogen sulphide as well other dangerous chemicals on a regular basis. Generally speaking, the type of workers usually have jobs such as:
- Construction worker
- Well driller
- Tunnel worker
- Maintenance crew
What will you learn from this training?
Workers will be educated in a myriad of ways to better understand and properly manage hydrogen sulphide. You will learn the physical properties related to H2S as well as the health risks involved in dealing with this chemical.
Other important information revealed in the course includes:
- How to properly protect yourself from H2S
- How to execute lift and drag practices
- Best ways to utilize a self-sufficient breathing device
